Peak flow is not a treatment guarantee.

Peak flow describes the published maximum flow. Contaminant reduction also depends on contact time, incoming water and media condition. Ask us to confirm the treatment flow for your water report and busiest time of day.

Count what runs together.

Two showers, laundry and a kitchen tap place a different demand on a system than one shower alone. Include high-flow fixtures, supply pressure and pipe size in your sizing conversation.

Start with what’s in your water.

Your water source tells us where to start. A water report helps us choose the right equipment.

City water

Start with your utility’s report and your concerns at the tap. Carbon is the entry option; AquaOx and XL offer multi-media treatment.

Private well

Start with a water test. Iron, sediment, sulfur and microbiological concerns can require different stages ahead of or after the main filter.

Hard water

A softener handles hardness. Whole-house filtration and softening serve different purposes and can be installed together.

Where it goes

Installed once, where your water enters the house

Ask a licensed plumber to assess your site and quote installation. There is no proprietary tooling, no certified-installer requirement, no annual service contract.

The install

Three connections

  1. 1In: your main water line feeds the system
  2. 2Out: filtered water feeds the rest of your home
  3. 3Drain line: carries the self-cleaning backwash water to any household drain

Garage

Most common

Climate-controlled, easy drain access, and your main water line usually enters here. The default for most homes.

Basement or utility room

Same idea as garage: find your main shutoff and the AquaOx goes next to it. Often near the water heater.

Crawlspace

If your main enters under the house, your plumber must confirm a stable, accessible, freeze-protected installation with enough clearance.

Outside

Warm climates only

Only where the system can be protected from freezing and weather in accordance with its installation instructions.

Know what you’re buying.

Match the exact model to your water. Read the warranty, review the installation requirements and ask for performance information for the contaminant you want to reduce.

Model-specific warranties

Ask for the relevant test information.

A media or component certification is not the same as certification of a complete system. Ask about the exact model, contaminant, tested flow and capacity.

Request performance information

Look beyond the sticker price.

A whole-house water filter has an equipment cost, an installation cost and an upkeep budget. Build an estimate for your own setup.

Automatic backwashing does not mean maintenance-free. The tank uses water to rinse the bed, the valve needs power, and media eventually needs replacement. Add-on equipment has its own upkeep.

Your ownership estimate

Estimated total

Enter all estimates to calculate.

System + installation + media replacement + years × annual expenses. An estimate in today’s dollars; excludes tax, shipping, financing, inflation and unplanned repairs. This is not a quote or a prediction of filter life.

Whole-house water filter questions

The questions we hear most when people are comparing options.

How much does a whole-house water filter cost?

Start with the current system prices shown above, then add installation and any specialty treatment. Ask your plumber for a site-specific quote. Include water, power, testing, replacement media and any add-on consumables when comparing ownership costs.

Which AquaOx system should I choose?

Carbon is our city-water option for smaller homes where chlorine, taste and odor are the main concerns. AquaOx and XL use multi-media beds for larger treatment needs. Choose using your water report and simultaneous water demand, not bathroom count alone.

Will a whole-house filter affect water pressure?

Every treatment setup adds some resistance to flow. The published peak flows are 12 GPM for Carbon, 15 GPM for AquaOx and 37 GPM for XL. Those numbers do not guarantee contaminant reduction at peak flow. Have your plumber and AquaOx confirm sizing for your pressure, fixtures and water conditions.

Does it work for city and well water?

AquaOx and XL can be part of a city or well-water treatment setup. Well water needs testing to identify required pretreatment or disinfection. Carbon is a city-water system. Every AquaOx warranty applies only to systems installed on potable water supplies that meet drinking-water standards, so have well water tested first.

Is a whole-house filter the same as a softener?

No. Filtration and softening do different jobs. A softener addresses calcium and magnesium hardness; a filter is selected for the contaminants it is designed to reduce. If you need both, have the equipment and installation order specified for your water.

Does automatic backwashing mean no maintenance?

No. Backwashing rinses the media bed, but it does not give exhausted media unlimited life. Check system operation, follow the maintenance instructions and budget for eventual media replacement. Prefilters, UV, RO and softeners have their own maintenance requirements.

Can I install it myself?

We recommend a licensed plumber. Installation requires suitable main-line connections, a drain arrangement that meets local requirements, power and access for service. Get the current instructions for your exact model before planning the installation.

What if fluoride is my main concern?

Do not assume a general whole-house carbon or multi-media filter meets a fluoride target. Discuss a model-specific treatment option, including under-sink reverse osmosis where appropriate, and review its documented reduction performance. No system should be described as producing fluoride-free water without evidence.

Where can I check the warranty and performance information?

The documentation section links the warranty for each model. Carbon has a five-year tank and control valve warranty; AquaOx and XL have ten-year coverage, subject to their terms. Contact us for model-specific performance information and installation instructions.
